P&O welcomes PSM aboard
P&O ‘s new luxury ferry the mv European Causeway which just recently finished sea trials, has PSM onboard.
Fitted on the 20,800 Tonnes luxury ferry are series 260 Tankstar type approved sensors, Series 2200 digital display monitors & two indicator panels with analogue displays. The system provides digital indication within the Ballast control room and the panels are mounted one each at the port and starboard fuel stations. Our Series 600 Tankwatch self powered gauges are also fitted as a secondary display, meeting regulations for passenger vessels and a lower cost alternative to expensive sight glasses.
PSM were also contracted to provide commissioning and supervisory services to ensure correct installation.
The vessel was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at their Shimonoeki shipyard, Japan. Most of the contract negotiation and routine liaison was handled at MHI London office, by our agents John and Sylvia McMahon of SAM Marine consultants.
The Ferry’s usual route will be between Larne and Cairnryan. She can carry 410 passengers and 375 cars. Her service speed is 23 knots and is crewed by a compliment of 55.
The European Causeway was one of two new builds awarded to MHI by P&O and a near identical set of instrumentation has also been supplied for the next vessel. It is also hoped that MHI will be given the go-ahead of further optional new builds in the near future.
God Bless her & all who sail in her !
